Matt Lopez—a.k.a. Mushroom Lopez—is a self-taught mycologist, educator, and co-founder of the Fungitarian brand. Raised on the South Side of Chicago, his connection to mushrooms started early, bonding with his father over fungi during walks in the woods and experiments in the kitchen. What began as childhood curiosity grew into a lifelong passion and career.
Without a formal degree, Matt immersed himself in mycology, mastering cultivation, ecology, and the cultural significance of fungi. His dedication led to features in agricultural magazines, appearances on local news, and speaking engagements across the country.
